Aprilstravaganza IS FINALLY HERE!!!

With this map of all 4 rows, you can see all the vendors attending to make it such a great day!  In case youre wondering those big red boxes with the X in them represent the trees and “medians” in the parking lot which separate our vendors booths from one another.

Carry on for our vendor spotlight this week featuring the new Little Hat Creek

And now, on to our newsletter feature!

Amazing what running a farmer’s market can teach me..
Grace shows up in so many places and flavors, I need only open my eyes to witness, and practice it many a time.

One of my bigger lessons in “Trust & Surrender”  (requiring a ton of grace) has come from watching Heather & Ben, the forces behind Little Hat Creek doing the hardest thing known to mankind,, if you ask me…

**Embracing Change**         (Am I right?!)

As our only baker, I’ve watched them navigate transitions with tremendous grace, training new employees to become self-sufficient, later to take over, and later yet to fly on their own, eventually into a new business opportunity – always done with grace.

I’ve watched them graciously

  • embracing cooperation and collaboration
  • offering support, without competing
  • always embodying the ethos of ‘the more the merrier’
  • handing over the proverbial “keys to the kingdom” (for success), handing down tools, wisdom, best practices, AND mentoring while simultaneously bowing out gracefully, making room for new bakers to succeed in their place

All this, while ALSO committing their own efforts into a new direction!

Let’s see what they’re up to now:

With what’s left of April, their focus remains on plants.

Theirs stand out because they are grown in only the best certified organic potting soil with seed that is either organic or untreated.

Ben insists on watering them by hand, himself, so he can keep a close eye on them and regulate their water supply to maximize root development and minimize stress from over- or under-watering.

-tomatoes & cherry tomatoes (10 varieties)

-hot & sweet peppers (7 varieties)

-basil (5 varieties)

-summer squash, eggplants, and cucumbers (2 varieties each)

-zinnias (one cutting type and 3 NEW dwarf container or bedding types)

-oregano (greek, and a NEW ornamental)

-rosemary & lavender (2 varieties each)

-sunflowers, marigolds, and calendula

-nasturtiums (4 varieties)

-greens & lettuce 6-packs (5 types)

-kitchen herbs like parsley, dill, & oregano

-ground covers (corsican mint and NEW mother of thyme)

Their spinach these past few weeks has looked VERY HAPPY, radishes were gorgeous and, with any luck–they will bring us asparagus for the first time!

May is just around the corner, and a true highlight for our market will be their bringing Broccolini, something new for Lexington!  FYI, Broccolini is a hybrid between broccoli and Chinese broccoli, with a milder, slightly sweeter flavor and is often used in stir-fries, salads, and as a side dish.  #GETEXCITED!!

PS: We are bringing you Live Music this week too!!  Come see Katrina Hope and sit a spell to enjoy yourself at our festival
